From UCLA's solarcam at Mt. Wilson, this photo shows vivid reds and greens of the April storms.  This kind of dramatic display is unusual in California.  But, due to the intensity of the storm, the cam was able to capture this exceptional view.  Click on the photo for a larger image.

Forrest E. Ray, Twin Falls, Idaho snapped this photo on March 30, 2001 as the April storms began.  Aurora is more easily seen in the northern-most states and 
provinces of North America.

The Solar Flare of July 14, 2000
Some disruption of power grids on the earth resulted from the explosion shown to the right.  There were minimal satellite and telephone service interruptions.  Effects continued into the week following the flare.  By 7/18, scientists reported that this solar event was beginning to settle down.
