An Invitation from PPW to an EAS Meeting on Thursday, May 15th, 2003
(As noted in the CGC Communicator  #573)
May 5, 2003

The Partnership For Public Warning (PPW) is sponsoring a discussion on the EAS at our upcoming first annual convention, symposium and exposition, May 15-17, 2003.  As some of you may have already seen, PPW wants to invite members of the broadcast EAS LECC and SECC communities who can attend to participate in this meeting that will be held on Thursday afternoon, May 15, at the Hilton Hotel in McLean, Virginia.

While the fee for the entire event is $375 for non-members, we have created a special $10.00 rate for this EAS meeting. The assumption is that the people who would be most beneficial to have at this meeting are the very ones who would be least likely to afford the full convention fee. That fee will also let you attend our reception at 5 p.m. that afternoon and admit you to the warning technology exposition area.*

Frank Lucia and I have come up with some thought on agenda topics for the meeting we hope will encourage more people to attend and contribute.

1. Ideas for EAS enhancements
2. Working with EAS newcomers such as Law Enforcement (AMBER-related topic)
3. Language issues
4. Training and education issues
5. Exchange of ideas by State and local Chairs about their EAS operations
6. State and local progress on upgrades to EAS equipment and procedures
based on FCC Report and Order including implementation of the new codes
7. EAS interface with NOAA Weather Radio
8. Funding issues
9. Other issues from the floor as time permits

BTW. I believe there are still some hotel rooms at the Hilton that PPW has blocked for the event at a great rate (for a DC area hotel) if you need to stay overnight.

Please send me an email message if you you have any questions and/or would like to attend.
