In response to the article
entitled, "TERM LIMITS AT THE SBE," Clay Freinwald replied
as follows on October 15, 2009:

Hi
Bob --
Let
me take this line by line -
TERM
LIMITS AT THE SBE
Last week, The Leslie Report stated
that, "Clay Freinwald is stepping down from the board of
the Society of Broadcast Engineers due to term limits
This
is true. The Societies' Bylaws limit an office holder to not more
than 3 consecutive terms after which that person must not hold a
directorship for 2 years (Article III, Section 4). In my 10 years on
the BOD I was also Vice President one year.
and
also leaving his post as Chairman of the EAS Committee for the same
reason.
It
is desired that Committee Chairs also be BOD Members. Vinny Lopez,
the new President, has appointed Ralph Beaver to fill the Committee
Chair slot.
"
CGC mentioned Clay's departure as EAS Chairman in last week's
Communicator newsletter and linked to the Leslie Report. According
to Ray Benedict of CBS, 'SBE does not have term limits for committee
chairman! The ten year limit only applies to national
officers."
This
is also true. There are cases, where a person, not on the
Board, is clearly the best person to chair a committee, or where
there is no one on the Board that has adequate experience, etc. In
these cases, a person outside of the BOD might be a committee chair.
Example of this is Richard Rudman who, most recently, chaired the
Government Relations Committee.
Let
me add -
I
will continue to work with the SBE EAS Committee, under Ralph Beaver.
I'm sure that others that have served on the Committee will also do
the same. Members of the Committee are chosen by the
Chairman.
I
also plan to continue to Chair the Washington State SECC.
Hope
this helps.
Clay
