Re: CGC #998
Thanks for sharing my column commenting on the HD Radio power hike. One of
your readers replied anonymously stating: "What Mr. McLane and the FCC
don't tell us is the Dark Side of HD FM." Quite to the contrary, Radio
World has covered IBOC criticism extensively including the research from
NPR Labs that the anonymous reader cites. See these examples, the second
of which is a detailed white paper from NPR itself:

While I personally support the FCC's recent action for the reasons stated
in my column, I also know that the decision is contentious and that many
engineers have concerns about it. I have always felt, and frequently
stated, that IBOC is an imperfect solution to a long-term challenge facing
our industry in how to "go digital." Radio World goes out of its way to
make sure that we report both the pros and the cons of this important
debate; we've done so for two decades, and we continue to publish more
letters and commentary about HD Radio, including extensive criticism of it,
than any other media outlet. I'm proud of our efforts to provide fair,
balanced coverage.
I invite readers to review the many papers and articles under "Digital
Radio" and "Reader's Forum" at our Web site, and to submit letters about
the topic to me. Links of interest:
