Subject: Larry Lopez (Angeles Crest Services) Recovering from Brain Injury
Date: Tuesday, June 12, 2007
Hello,
My name is Dianna Lopez, I am Larry's wife. I am writing to let you know that Larry is very ill and will be down for a little while. He had a "subdural hematoma" (SDH) which is a form of traumatic brain injury in which blood collects between the dura (the outer protective covering of the brain) and the arachnoid (the middle layer of the meninges). I say "had" because he had emergency surgery yesterday, June 11, to drain the blood and he is currently at the Antelope Valley Hospital in the ICU unit. He will remain there until his doctor determines otherwise.
His prognosis is very good, and I must tell you that the improvements were amazing just coming out of anesthesia. His family and I were extremely frightened and hope that none of you ever experience anything like that in your lifetime.
It is my sincere hope is that Larry is up and running in a couple of weeks and will make a full recovery. And while that is my absolute most important concern, I know that Larry would want to make sure that his clients are taken care of in his absence.
So, for the time being, I have made arrangements with Feliberto to have him keep up with the regular janitorial maintenance on Mt. Wilson and Mt Harvard as well as the KTLK tx site. Our son Patrick and a friend Todd will ensure that trash collections and any porto servicing will continue uninterrupted. As far as any extra jobs that Larry has agreed to do, they will have to be postponed or if you must make other arrangements, please know that I completely understand.
I will keep you up on his progress and if I have missed anyone with this email that you can think of, please forward it to them for me along with my apology for not doing it myself.
Thank you, Dianna Lopez

Subject: Update on Larry Lopez
Date: Sunday, June 17, 2007
I wanted to let everyone know that Larry was improving so rapidly on Thursday, June 14, that his doctor released him and he is now home!!! He is expected to continue improving and get back to his old self. We would just like to thank everyone for their prayers and good thoughts. I truly believe that all of the love that was sent to him played an incredibly large role in the fact that he is now back home with his family where he belongs.
If anyone would like to talk to Larry, he is up to phone calls and would love to hear from you. (He is kind of like a caged bird right now.) Our number is 661-266-9369.
Again, thank you for all of your support over the past week, not only for him but for me and my sons as well. It really helped us stay strong to know how much people cared.
Our sincerest thanks,
Larry, Dianna, Patrick, and Little Larry

Subject: What Caused Larry's Condition?
Date: Monday, June 18, 2007
[Bob, in response to your your question about what caused Larry's condition], we cannot really pinpoint a time when he took a severe blow to the head, only a minor bump. Of course while researching on line I found that it can happen even if you fall and don't hit your head. Just a severe jar can do it supposedly. The one time that we know he bumped his head was about 3 weeks ago, which matches the surgeon's estimate for how old the injury is; however, he hasn't felt well (headaches, weakness, etc.) since around Mother's Day. So the bottom line is that we may never know for sure, but he will be extra careful from now on as should everyone. This injury took a very healthy man and almost took him away for good. In his ICU's nurse's own words, "He almost checked out." Fortunately he is on the mend and I am not letting go! :-)
Dianna
